Online Meeting Schedule
The ORG - Online Recovery Group
This group was started in March 2020 in response to the shut down of Los Angeles meetings due to the impact of COVID-19. Our goal is to help people in recovery stay connected to regular online meetings to maintain their sobriety and stay connected to the Fellowship of A.A.
We use Zoom to facilitate the meetings and we use Venmo (@Online-Recovery-Group-ORG) to help cover the costs for the premium features to support large groups online as well as to cover the costs of this website. Any additional monies collected through our 7th tradition will be donated to our local Central Offices that will be seriously impacted by a reduced amount of donations during this time. We want to stay operational so they can continue to be of service to us and newcomers seeking help.
Some Zoom best practices when attending an Online Recovery Group Meeting:
1) Mute yourself when not speaking
2) Latency makes group responses difficult to do in unison. Sometimes it is better to stay on mute
3) Zoom has a “Raise Hand” feature to support sharing. You can also send a private chat to the leader to share
4) If you are concerned about anonymity, you can change your name by clicking on the ellipses in the window of your personal image/icon. Select “rename” to do this.
5) You can add a virtual background to your image by going to the preferences section under the zoom.us menu and select Virtual Backgrounds
6) Join the meeting early or stay on after the meeting for Fellowship!
7) A great way to be of service during this time is to help the elders in our community who may not be that tech savvy and might be intimidated by this transition to online meetings. Have one-on-one chats with them through Zoom and show them how to do all of the items above. This will help them feel confident with the tools and ensure they are not isolated in their inability to physically get to a meeting.
8) Zoom.us has a free plan that allows for 40 minute sessions with up to 100 participants. You do not need to have an account to attend the meetings.
